There is no best in an anime. Most people have thier tastes. Some people even watch Bobobobobobbo or whatever it is(doesnt bother me that anime isnt really my type). But a good anime I loved and still stress people to watch is Shingetsutan Tsukihime. I got my reasons for that. Quite late right now too(dont wanna type much). But most will agree its very good.
Retro or new age? You mean technological? Battle Programmer Shirase? haahah! You just switched my computer geek mode on. But still too lazy to type. Have to find out yourself.
