In terms of predicting what will be popular in 2020, it's tricky. Obviously it's a long way away. But, if I look at the last 7 years, I started my fandom in 2006. In 2006 Haruhi was the most popular thing, and everyone was moaning about Moé anime. it's 2013 now, Haruhi is still about, and Moé is still going strong. Likewise Hatsune Miku has been around 6 years, and there's no reason she won't be around in another 6-7 years.

Of course, it's entirely likely some new fad will sweep japan eclipsing the aforementioned.

Still, I hope the 2020 Olympics will include Anime and other Japanese pop-cultural items, and not take a cop out and just try to ape what the Chinese did in 2008.

Of course I can see a lot of foreign journalists being rather bewildered... But then I wondered if the same was true during the UK Olympics. There was a lot of stuff there that I didn't think would be known of outside the British Isles.
