While that would work, it could cause problems with videos that were encoded with old versions of XviD. I'd recommend that you follow the instructions in the
Media Configuration Guide and install ffdshow. That will solve the problem without causing trouble for your older videos. I should also point out that green image is often caused by the Nemo codec pack, so make sure that you un-install it if that is the problem.
