I guess a little (straight) romantic tension is always welcome, so mixed is cool too. However, I don't like if it is a battle show and the show tries to artificially make it gender balanced. It's just too easy to see through and tends to make for all sorts of irksome gender equality speeches and otherwise needless interruptions to the action.
