Lord Genome said that Spiral Beings aren't limited to just humans. As in Boota's case, it's either a case of sudden evolution or influence from Simon's own Spiral Energy. It was never mentioned what exactly caused the change.

And technically, any being capable of reproduction should be a Spiral Being. Having EXTREME Spiral Energy, is of course, a different story. In the current event of things, the only characters proven to possess that are Simon, Genome, Kittan and Boota. (( Maybe Kamina as well. ))
