Well now that we're at that point in the manga where we finally got some insight into Natsu's past, I'd just want to say, his major development really took a long time to arrive. We've been kept in the dark for ages as to what Natsu's background is, ever since the first few arcs where all the major character's backgrounds were explored. Huh, I guess it was worth the wait
