I think it was more rather the fact that VV was recalling some memories, like how Lelouch saw his life flash before him, VV was recalling that particular incident when he was about to die. There's too many plot holes. For we know that when CC lost her code, she lost all her memories from the moment she got Geass and all the time after. Yet VV, definitely has knowledge of Geass in that scene.
