To pretty much echo the two posters above, aside for the superb animation quality the show isn't really doing much to appeal to a broader base. Usually when an anime does well among its audience, the demand for the source material goes up dramatically. Those figures for the novel distribution seems to suggest the anime hasn't boosted the sale by much. That's a bad news for the anime-fans if they are hoping to see another season of K. Heck, before your post on the brief history of those various characters, I had no idea what the story was about or where it was going. While the animation production is ridiculously good, the storytelling is very disjointed.
