One of the commenters on LiA suggested that Kotetsu is representing a very Japanese take on this situation - the Dad for whom work comes before family. He's a salaryman whose job just happens to be superhero.

She's in no danger. Stay home. Don't touch anyone. She has no powers otherwise.
Bunny on the other hand needs help. Kotetsu's first mistake was making such a rash decision to quit in the first place. Saying I'm coming right back without thinking was never going to work out for him. If anything she just needs to know the truth, but who knows if she would even believe such a tale. His mother saying she's not going to help him with excuses might mean she wouldn't back him up there either.
Life is full of hard choices. Kaede can just be pissed for a while and wait. Or she could come to him, which I half expect to happen.
