Spoiler for Wilhelm Grimm's Magical Girls 36: THE POWER: THE LOVE:
Brian (voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara, being born in Germany and all) made for a pretty amusing one-off guest star. A foreign boy about Akane's age, who seems to have a very stereotypical view of Japan, but is nonetheless charming. (Reika's not a ninja. That's Nao.) The Bad End Kingdom barely had a role in this episode; Wolfy's lines were like, five or ten at best. It was Akane's love story from beginning to end and, even though it's a story of summer love that's been told many times before, it hit all the right notes, and I enjoyed it. The sunset sequence was animated pretty beautifully, and the way everybody pitched in to help Akane was sweet. (Even if Yayoi started getting in on the whole thing with her shifty eyes.)
Plus, before the stock footage kicked in, FIRE SWORD! So glad to see Decors getting a battle usage these days. Wolfy never knew what was coming to him - Akane just started wailing on him, completely in the zone. The budget was allocated here, too. And, since it was Kakihara, the English was actually pretty well done this week. Asami Tano (Akane)'s English isn't too shabby either.
To make up for things, the Bad End group have a much bigger role next week. They become human and attempt to take over the school - by winning an election. I already know exactly what well to mine for jokes.
