Most of the TV series Gundam designs were done by Kunio Okawara, while the Tallgeese and other OZ MS were mostly designed by Hajime Katoki. EW MS designs were mostly Katoki designs (Serpent and all the redesigned Gundams as well).
I think they're putting the EW in to let fans know this is based on Katoki's design as opposed to the somewhat simplified TV version. Still the same MS, just with a lot more detail on it. Okawara's good at simple styled MS (the original RX-78, F90, F91, the VOTOMS Scopedogs) but when he tries to put more detail onto them it looks more like an MS-shaped quilt. Katoki is usually better at detailed designs but by god the overdecalization of his designs in kit format (Unicorn, I'm looking at you) are vomit-inducing...
