We're going to have her give up the code and die, and Lelouch will potentially profess love and/or gratitude and then either end up with Kallen in the end or no one at all.
Path of Loneliness, etc. etc. All of the words about the Geass would be for naught and not much of a sacrifice if Lelouch ended up with any ending that didn't involve complete sacrifice or seclusion.
