Except she is important. Very important in relation to Michael.
I guess the studio team did a "forward thinking" on it that make it more concurrent with the novels as a whole instead of a the volume.
At the time the author probably hasn't stabilized Irina character and development. Of course now we novel readers do know what Irina eventually turned out as.
And finally it makes more sense that the "Excalibur Incident" people are in the room of the said direct result of the incident.
A random angel doesn't make sense looking back now. Heck if we look at the novels as it stands today their are several individuals that should be standing next to Michael instead, if not Irina
