Actually, there was a
very similar scene in a popular manga (which was animated too, but this particular scene didn't get animated, nor the arc it took place in) where the leader bad guy rips out his own ear drum with his
fingers to to stop the good guy's attack, with blood gush and all.
(not stating the name of said manga/anime to avoid spoiling it)
