There are non-military nuts on every side that wants some sort of "show of force". Most of ex-military have the "enough is enough" mentality and when faced with the prospect of reservist or war, they just want to "get over it and out of my life asap".
Remember the hawk who got sacked from the JASDF who held a protest? There ARE ex-military hawks that are reminiscent of Major Kong from Dr Strangelove. These crazies are everywhere.
