It was the grandfather himself who gave me the idea. When Hina runs off to cry over the loss of her mother, who does he send after her? Rei.
He's an old man wanting to make sure his grandchildren will be okay after he's gone, and perhaps he's a bit traditional/old-fashioned and wanting to find them "good matches." Just a thought.
