I might be mistaken but this first episode just introduces the character's personalities in a more light hearted fashion. From the looks of things the next episode "episode 2" will be the manga's chapter 1 which is basically the introduction to Teeichi and Yuuko's relationship and adds the actual darker feel of the series.
