It is just national tradition, I.E Bows are consider to be sissy and weaklings. It actually fits, given a lot of warrior cultures (Heck, even anime prejudices).
I might do a translation of this LN sometimes, now that I quit Blade Dance's translation~ It looks interesting. Especially since Ellen is actually not-insane type and it look like the raws are being actively translated to chinese. A girl with a superior grasp of tactics....meow~
