Finally got around to watching the first episode.
Since I've read some of the manga, none of what happened was surprising. I think they did an excellent job with the art direction and character design. The whole drool thing is still strange, but that's not the only thing this show has going for it.
I was really surprised, however by the VA of Urabe. It fit the odd character perfectly. The roughness of the replies to the classmate's attempts at casual conversation, the confidence, and amusement to her voice after the laughing fits. For me, Ayako Yoshitani worked well as her voice. She did not sound like a typical anime voice, and that fit so well for such a mysterious girlfriend.
