To begin with it seems the diary and Ringo were just a decoy. Momoka pointed the brothers to it so that Sanetoshi would focus his attention on it. That would distract him from the real penguindrum.
It's sad that by doing this Momoka put Ringo in grave danger. I also find it very sad that Momoka revealed herself to Shouma but never even tried to talk to Ringo. And to think that in episode 5 she even insulted her calling her bitch and whatnot. Way to go older sister
