The manga sold about a quarter-million copies from the scattered sales figures I looked at like
these, making it one of the top-selling titles on that list. That's probably a more important figure to the likes of Shogakukan than how well it fared as an anime. Remember that most manga adaptations are intended to spur manga sales as much as bring in revenues from TV advertising or DVD sales. (A quick search didn't bring up many ancillary products like statuettes, either.)
