Go easy on the kid. I don't like him either the way he is now. But he's only 16, tops. How many teenagers do you know who aren't insufferable at that age? I suspect the author deliberately made his personality a work in progress as an integral element of story development. Let's wait until he's old enough to drive before we give him the real once-over.
