Take a look at what this looks like when I extend the gradient to the sides:
Awful, eh? The edges of the banner are quite clear and distinct. That's a bad thing. Try making the dots fainter towards the sides until the fade out of existence. Or, if you want to modify the effect slightly, try placing the dots only over the picture. If you don't cover the background with the dots, then they won't cause a problem and I think it will look better that way.
