IMHO, the story is more...."optimistic" as compared to P3.
Characters in P4 are all lively and require much of the support from each other. Not that in p3 there weren't any...but, there's just too much "unknown information" about each other in p3. As if everyone was part of their own isolated system.
Of course, the ending of P3 has much more of a touching sense as compared to P4 (in my opinion at least).
Current progress is Level 83 Main Character with Satan as my main fighter (fully levelled him with null wind to nullify his weakness)...trying to obtain Helel to fight the last boss, whom i shall not reveal (but it's obvious).
Btw, this may seem off-topic but can anyone spare me some news of a SMT 4? I've been waiting mighty long for it.....
