Like a moth to the flame I am reluctantly drawn to the second season of Strike Witches...

Moe? WWII military-fetishism? Extreme pantsu service?

For me, that debate ignores mecha musume as it's own distinct reason to watch. Whether it is chocolate in my peanut butter or the other way around, for me it tastes better than by itself.

So my ranking is:
1. Mechamusume
2. WWII

The two other elements of this show are actually kind of minuses for me.
3. Moetic antics (yes even the ones with lots of implied yuri) are tiresome and I can only handle in controlled doses.
4. Downright excessive pants flash. Seriously. How can I possibly admit to anyone off a BBS like this that I actually watch and enjoy this show? :-(

I can understand that for the larger population (especially in Japan) the proportion of interest is almost completely inverted.
1. Moe - all otaku love moe! Heck why else would it be so profitable!
2. Pantsu at soft core porn levels - all otaku love porn! So why not more? Given that most anime is consumed privately and talked about anonymously online why not porn it up? It's inconceivable that western otaku might be a) ashamed of this level of service while b) not ashamed of watching a moetic anime in general.
3. General techo, and specifically WWII fetishism - now we're talking a smaller otaku sub species... But it's okay, any bone thrown to them will suck them in and sales are guaranteed by the above two groups.
4. Mechamusume - uh... Niche market?

Why complain? The show gets aired! Exactly, i don't know why I bother except to allay some of the shame... (^_^);;

Now then, I think I really have to get back to desiging that board game to play with my Strike Witches figures...
