Actually, Aoki had thought of the idea as you suggested earlier about Rin. Only to be revealed by her that she demonstrated this aspect of her only for him.
Rin is just a very sharp and clever girl who had been through a lot, thus her maturity beyond her years. She yearn for a Father Figure which she knew she'll never find in Reiji. My observation is that, as she knew that she is still young, people will just ignore her if she act her age, and thus resort to said actions in the manga.
Only problems is that she, in her young age, lacks the experience on the handling of emotional matters.
