i highly doubt that. in the prologue layfon states her majesty banished him from grendan. they don't give us a reason on why she banned layfon. and no, he didn't decide. he had no choice but to leave. you have to also keep in mind Missing Mail tells a different story of layfon. they changed his personality completely 360 and how the events around him change from the novel. i'm sure they'll explain his past more thoroughly in the anime.

We dont know on what story we are baseing in the anime... manga...novels... since each is different ^^ so if you readed some novels could you tell who is that girl that kissed layfon at the begining ? (was there anything about it ? )

Maybe the anime will have its own story ;] time will show but hmmm I woder if there will be 13 or 25 episodes
