I can give you the most recent example- Konoe Subaru's nekomimi and shippo are accessories that looked attached to her head and they even goddamn moved.
It's not uncommon for Anime drawings in general to integrate those seamlessly. Whether or not this is truly the case here obviously we can't tell without the text, I'm just throwing in the possibility.
