The picture suggests that CC was the one who actually do the piloting and Lulu is helper pilot. I might be wrong (still d/ling the episode).
Almost all mech anime I saw, the asistant pilot is aways (behind/above) the main pilot. This might be the case here too.. Also notice that the handle that Lulu uses to control and shoot super beam in ep 19, was in CC's seat..
hmm may be Lulu decide to just sit back for the rest of the seire and let the 'girls' (CC and Kallen) do the fighting for him lol
