In real life, Tonouchi had many followers so he was a potential threat to the Roshigumi which was just recently established. These followers ran away after his assassination (like the episode showed, he was assassinated in a bridge) or were wiped out by Serizawa faction.
Next week we won't have an episode. At least the wait is going to be worth it since the preview mentioned the duels for Aizu and showed Kosuzu x Ryu scene.
