My father is a responsible and occasional hunter. A lot of people are where I live. I think that outright banning all guns would be excessive, though the U.S. could use tighter gun control.

Concerning the 'romantic tension'. I don't really think there is anything, at least not as literally as that. Akane clearly has interest in Kogami, but her heart doesn't seem to be all aflutter, if you know what I mean.

Her interest isn't primarily romantic, but I could see it eventually going that way. Right now, I'd say it's a slight crush, secondary to a large amount of professional interest.
