While I do find this project interesting. With all do respect to this project, I don't quite see the purpose of this anime at least form the side of AKB48. The fact is that they are now by far the most popular music group in Japanmeans they don't need the anime to attract new fanbase not to mention their original/home fan base is the otaku crowd in Akihabara with many members are well known for being regular manga reader and some even self-proclaiming as otaku.
On the other hand, anime industry could get some sort of boost from being directly associated with AKB48 considering the Akiba connection is more tied toward manga and games sides of ACG world.
