Aye... it's rather like the network executives in the 1960s who didn't want Spock on the original Star Trek. Rather than actually research his popularity - they just assumed that his pointy ears would scare off the audience ("too Satanic"). The series won that battle.. but lost many others, each one of which diminished the series.
