Still, nothing, nothing, could've prepared her for... this!
"This has to be a joke!" Fate stared wide-eyed at the papers in front of her.
"I'm afraid it isn't, Mrs. Harlaown. The courts ruled heavily in her favor in this matter."
"I can understand that my career probably caused all this, but- but she was the one who cheated on ME! With my brother! AND his WIFE! And she gets... everything?!"
"I'm afraid so. As I'm sure you're aware, the wife almost always gets everything in cases like these."
"But we're both-"
"Yes, well, in this case 'wife' refers to the homemaker, and as Mrs. Takamachi has been remaining at home for over a year now..."
"But that's because her linker core damage forced her out of the service! You're saying she gets everything because she's unemployed?!"
"In short, yes."
"B-but... Vivio! The house! Everything I own, including the clothes I'm wearing right now, my car... Arf?! WHY the HELL does she get ARF?!"
"The dog-"
"Arf isn't a dog! She's my fami-"
"The dog was non-negotiable. An Earth custom, as I understand it."
Fate slumped in her chair, still dazed and staring at her lawyer in open-mouthed shock. Then, after several moments, she closed her eyes and lowered her head all the way down below her knees, tuning out the sound of her lawyer's voice as she considered her options.
Really, when it came down to it, there was only thing to do...

20 Years Earlier
"Grab my hand!" nine-year old Nanoha Takamachi called out to the blond-haired girl with the sad eyes, stretching out her hand towards her former rival and - hopefully - future friend, who knelt beside the precipice of a sheer drop into nothingness.
Young Fate Testarossa jerked her head back and forth, glancing first at her mother and sister, falling into the oblivion below, and then up at the girl in white who'd offered her so much, and even now offered her salvation - which could she choose?! Her mother had forsaken her, abandoned her, and was almost certainly now beyond hope, but-
Her options suddenly became a lot more limited when, in a flash of light, a second, older black-clad blonde appeared behind her, the older woman delivering a swift boot to the rear that sent the younger girl on a one-way trip downward to join her family.
"Trust me," the older Fate T. Harlaown said, looking up at the younger Nanoha's shocked and horrified face and beginning to fade away, "it's probably better like this."

I found this to be darkly amusing. Good job

Thoughts, anyone?
P.S. I don't hate or dislike Yuuno, this is just a song-inspired fic idea.

Welcome! I'd read your fic, so go for it!
In other news, I've posted my Kamen Rider crossover on FF.net in the crossover section (aka the place where fics go to die). If you enjoyed it, please be kind enough to leave a review. Thanks ^^
