I always thought it was a nod to the Harry Potter serie.
The miniskirt aside, it's quite close to classic londonian school uniform, and the wide coat definitely look like those we see in Hoggwart.
Plus, Yue shares some common points with Luna (weird hobbies, side-character position, not that sexy, genius skills, extremely strong-willed, ability to take quite a beating and retaliates immediately).
At last, a quite faithful adaptation of the manga.
Technically, they really go out of their usual self to give us macross like battles.
Sadly, they also go out of the (already high) fanservice level, with nearly a pantyshot in every scene...
Did Yue really need that?
And the opening gave me mixed feelings.
Watching a cheerful and extraverted Yue was quite unsettling.
Luckily, she goes back to her usual self (collected and gloomy) near the end, with nice animated hobbies of her (i.e beverage and toilets ^^ ). It always helps to flesh out a character better.
I admit I've chuckled a bit with the artifact bra part, obviously too large at first.
The only stroke of genius in all those fanservice overloads.
