I wonder if Black Lotus was created from a fear of being metaphorically disarmed? As in, she was constantly faced with someone who knew exactly how to manipulate her into situations where she couldn't retaliate?
From a desire to always have a way to fight back, and a determination to cut free of any entrapment, an avatar like Black Lotus could be born.
(Also, the power to move about freely regardless of the terrain/environment, which is another form of entrapment, and which is countered by Black Lotus' levitation.)
