I need some help regarding some characters. I continuously encounter this but 'am not able to understand the difference.

What is the difference between the small one and the big bolded one? How do I recognize which to use at place?
When I refer from the picture image, both are shown as same but as soon as I capture it into text the difference occurs.
Similar for the situation like:
ャ and
ヤ (though I read on wiki dictionary that both are same)
ー and
丨 (though I feel that it is probably an error while capturing, but not sure)
