I have a copy of 2008 at home.

As far as I can tell there really is no major difference between the releases. The older versions just don't have some of the interesting features the newer versions have. Like 2008 has annotative text whereas 2006 doesn't. 2008 doesn't have the ribbon that 2010 does, etc. The core program hasn't changed much. In fact, 2006 is really a bit of overkill for what my company does. We don't use 3D at all.

As for the difference between Architecture, Electrical, Structural and MEP versions, as far as I can tell, the only real differences are the trade specific blocks and tools that come with each version.
