The choices are better constructed in this than in some commercial VNs I've read
By that, I mean that it definitely feels like the decisions will and should have lasting effects on your relationships with the other characters, which is nice. I'm looking forward to seeing how much branching will happen and how far away the individual routes are going to get from the original storyline.

I think it's just right. It makes sense both because of their circumstances and initial attitudes towards each other and also because there just isn't that much time to do that development in unless you wanted to add more mami-route-original stuff than there already is before whatever branching is going to happen.
