Just noticed that blogger is talking about Barnes and Noble, not Borders. That makes things easier, since B&N has a sales rank on their website. Quote from the site on how rankings work:

Quote:
How is sales rank determined on Barnes & Noble.com?

Barnes & Noble.com ranks books daily based on rolling six months of sales data. Sales ranking will change as new books are added to the database. If there are no sales during a particular amount of time, or if other titles have more sales, a title can lose its ranking.
Now, how does Haruhi do?

Manga Vol 1 - 36, 965 (released 10/28/08)
Manga Vol 2 - 22,899 (released 03/24/08)
Manga Vol 3 - 31,018 (released 06/09/09)

Novel 1 Hardcover - 11,608 (released 04/01/09)
Novel 1 Softcover - 37,511 (released 04/01/09)

These may seem really good, but other than the hardcover that's normal for just about any vaguely popular manga. For reference:

Case Closed Vol 28 - 50,371 (released 03/17/09)
D.Gray-Man Vol 13 - 18,665 (released 05/05/09)
Fullmetal Alchemist Vol 19 - 7,141 (released 07/21/09)
Hayate the Combat Butler Vol 12 - 45,283 (released 08/11/09)
Naruto Vol 43 - 4,499 (released 04/07/09)
Slayers Vol 6 - 119,685 (released 12/28/05)

I only added Slayers because the bulk of that blog talks about Haruhi making light novels in America popular, but just look at that volume of Slayers. The rank is pretty damned good considering it's almost 4 years old and the rankings seem to only cover 6 months.
