This is just a theory of mine, but I think she specifically died because she targeted Kouichi in the end.
(Yeah yeah jelously... Think i already said it back then... 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned'

I actually expected her to survive the anime though, before she got impaled that is)

Well back to topic - I think she died because she tried to attack him.
I also think Kouichi would have never died ddue to the calamity no matter what.
Why? Simply because he was the last one the Another wanted to die in the first place.
