Meh, as far as I've seen in history, ethics is optional when it comes to war. If someone shoots you from behind, you aren't going to say, "Hey, you cheated!" You won't because you will be dead.
After all, violence only begets violence. I still find it strange that people always figure that killing will stop all the killing. That only works if every single person on the enemies' side dies. Otherwise, it only puts a temporary damper on the war. Tensions (social/economic/religious) will inevitably start more fighting.
