Basically, all of Umineko is unreliable because the culprit is the one telling us the story. And the culprit happens to love mystery novels.

One culprit who loves mystery novels and doesn't understand them, in that case. But jokes aside, episodes 1 and 2 were written before any crimes were committed while 3 and 4 were written by Battler, who was presumably not the culprit, yet contain the same mistake.

Yeah, I'd attribute this to Ryu over his characters.
