Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's Sound Stage Megami 1
Spoiler for SSM1:
1 – Opening
Nanoha: Good evening everyone. This is Seishou University affiliated Private Elementary School 3rd year, Takamichi Nanoha and…
Fate: Good evening everyone, this is Fate Testarossa.
Nanoha: Um, this special CD is being called Megami magazine Presents Sound Stage M.
Fate: The M is supposed to mean Megami Magazine and the “Merry” in Merry Christmas. Together we will be talking about Christmas and other things for the listeners.
Nanoha: We were told that we should relax and just talk like we usually do together. So we’ll just do that, how we always talk to each other.
Fate: Yes, as we usually do.
Nanoha: We don’t have a lot of time, but please take care of us.
Fate: Please take care of us.
Nanoha: Um, but I’m sure there are people listening who don’t know us. So first start we’ll start with a detailed introduction. I and Fate-chan look on the outside like normal elementary school students but we’re really mages whose job is to use magic to solve lots of things.
Fate: We combat mages work together with an interdimensional organization that called TSAB. Our main jobs are investigating cases and, in past incidents, fighting together.
Nanoha: Fate-chan was born in TSAB’s original world Midchilda and has been a mage since childhood. As for me, I only just discovered real magic in spring this year, meaning that I am a new mage. Ever since my destined meeting (or destiny starting meeting?) my precious friend and magic teacher Yuuno-kun and meeting my combat partner mage staff Raising/Raging Heart, after learning many things and how to use magic then finally meeting Fate-chan.
Fate: Me and Nanoha met for the first time during a certain incident while pursuing the Jewel Seeds that my mother wanted for her own purposes/experiments. We ended up becoming rivals.
Nanoha: As a result there were many fights and meetings, I even fought against her.
Fate: But now, as you can see, we’re both friends and stay together. This is the outcome of Nanoha’s gentle words and ‘painful’ powerful feelings, and unflagging courage as we fought.
Nanoha: Er, um, it’s not as cool as it sounds.
Fate: Really?
Nanoha: I just wanted to be friends with you. I couldn’t bear the thought leaving you alone. I don’t like seeing sad faces. That’s all. It was just my selfishness.
Fate: But thanks to Nanoha, I began to live as my true self.
Nanoha: That’s also because Fate-chan chose to.
Fate: Regardless, I believe the reason I’m beside Nanoha right now and laughing together is because of you.
Nanoha: I also think, because Fate-chan is by my side, I’m so happy and content. Oh, we haven’t gone very far in our introductions.
Fate: Sorry.
Nanoha: If you want to know more about what we’re talking about right now, I suggest you take a look at all the current videos/DVDs available right now at your local shops.
Fate: This is MSLN, please take care of us.
Nanoha: I will! Well we had that happen, and right now I and Fate-chan are helping the same TSAB who took care of Fate and waiting for the day of a confrontation with a very serious current case.
Fate: The day we confront/face the highly dangerous ancient lost logia “Yami no Sho”.
Nanoha: This is the sort of days we face right now in A’s. Right now in your world’s real time broadcast, it’s roughly about the same time as the climax I imagine?
Fate: It seems there a slight time delay between other worlds time axis over there and this CD recording right now (awkward translation).
Nanoha: Over here it’s currently just before Christmas and this case’s mystery is getting more intense as time goes on. We’re currently taking a break before facing our next/final battle. Thus this is the timing of our recordings (bad translation).
Fate: We’re all trying our best over here.
N+F: See you later! (or Please look after us)
2 – Nanoha and Fate’s Christmas Conversation
Nanoha: By the way Fate-chan, just how much do you know about Christmas?
Fate: Um, well according to what I’ve studied about this country in this world… On December 24 and 25, people buy cakes, family and friends have celebrations at their homes, typically in the form of parties. Throughout Japan, young people and families with children are the focus/center and there is a custom to receive and give gifts during the celebration or so it is written.
Nanoha: Er, somehow it’s both right and wrong at the same time.
Fate: In the textbook that Amy made, it pretty much says the same thing.
Nanoha: Oh I see… it’s a very straightforward and practical description.
Fate: Um, is there something wrong with it?
Nanoha: Um, not really.
Fate: Is there more to it?
Nanoha: Hm… for a Japanese third grader that dreams big, there’s more, say, of a mood of anticipation or wonder. And… um… Oh Fate-chan, do you know about Santa-san?! Santa-san!?
Fate: Santa-san?
Nanoha: Hm, I wonder what the data says about him… Oh, this, this!
Fate: Let’s see… An old man who wears red and carries a white bag? And the animals with him are… Deer?
Nanoha: Oh, so close. These are reindeer.
Fate: Reindeer?
Nanoha: On Christmas, Santa rides a sled pulled by reindeer and delivers presents to children.
Fate: Really? Why?
Nanoha: Er…. Why? Hm, that’s a good question.
Fate: It’s impossible if he’s doing individual deliveries to all children. Is there a way he decides ?
Nanoha: Um… Er… Um…
Fate: Also, according to this picture he rides through the sky on a sleigh pulled by reindeer. I don’t recall hearing of such an aviation method for small aerial vehicle.
Nanoha: Um…
Fate: This can’t be magic? How can this be?
Nanoha: Um… Uh… It kinda hurts to look at Fate-chan’s pure/innocent eyes.
Fate: Huh, huh, huh?
Nanoha: Um, anyways there’s happens to be a legend or should I say, a fairy tale that goes like that.
Fate: Oh it’s a fairy tale.
Nanoha: To imitate the fairy tale, fathers and mothers normally give their children gifts/gifts for Christmas.
Fate: Oh I see. It sounds wonderful/fun.
Nanoha: But… since Fate-chan didn’t know about Santa, I was kinda hoping that she would believe in it for a little while.
Fate: Oh, ah… Sorry, I hope I didn’t ask Nanoha a really insensitive question and ruined her hopes.
Nanoha: Oh, that’s not it at all. Really, so don’t worry about it. Um, anyways, Arisa-chan and Suzuka-chan told me that never believed in Santa-san’s existence since kindergarten. I guess it’s difficult nowadays in our information society to find any kids who continue to believe in Santa.
Fate: Hm, um, what about everyone else?
Nanoha: Well, it appears that my older sister believed until grade 4. Oh speaking of Santa-san, Suzuka-chan showed me a pretty good book about him. I brought it. I found it. This is it!
Fate: Christmas Days?
Nanoha: This is a really good story. Suzuka-chan suggested it.
Fate: Wow, its pictures are really pretty/beautiful. It’s about Santa-san.
Nanoha: Hm, looking at, I guess it’s more about Christmas presents.
Fate: Presents eh? So have can you remember any memorable presents, Nanoha?
Nanoha: Hm, I can’t remember all the gifts I got from people but the one I treasure most is the ribbons I got from Fate-chan.
Fate: Oh, I’m the same. Nanoha’s ribbons are very valuable/important to me.
Nanoha: What about everyone else?
Fate: Do you have a treasured present too?
Nanoha: A physical or emotional gift. I know there are many types of gifts out there, but I think the gift that someone gave/made for your sake is the most beautiful/greatest of all.
Fate: We too, have gotten all sorts of things from all sorts of people over the course of our lives. (From many people, we have received many gifts that have allowed us to live now.)
Nanoha: That is why… Um, I know I don’t know how to put into words very well. We’ll do our best, our very best.
Fate: It is thanks to all of you, that we can, right now, talk like this with you. When you’re lonely, please call us.
Nanoha: We’ll definitely answer you back (lit: rush back to you).
Fate: Yes.
3 – A message card (postcard) from everyone.
Nanoha: Well then, right now we’re going to read all the messages we’ve gathered from everyone who could not come.
Fate: This is our message to you, so please listen. First is from Chrono Harlaown of the TSAB
Nanoha: Fate-chan’s older brother (onii-chan).
Fate: Um, officially speaking he’s not my brother yet.
Nanoha: Haha, oh I see.
Fate: Um, hello everyone. I hope that Fate and Nanoha over there are not bothering you too much.
Nanoha: Aw, Chrono-kun you’re terrible.
Fate: (… man Chrono, you’re way to formal) It gives me/us great delight to know that our two Aces can meet with you in such a manner. Also, it gives us no greater joy to know that their words give you such tranquility and pleasure. This message is to continue with both Fate Testarossa, and Takamichi Nanoha together, so please treat them well. From TSAB Enforcer Chrono Harlaown. As always, Chrono-kun is so serious.
Nanoha: Oh that reminds me, Fate-chan. Have you decided on how you’re going to address/call Chrono-kun from now on?
Fate: How to address…?
Nanoha: Like when he finally becomes your brother for real.
Fate: Um, er… I guess you mean like Onii-chan or nii-san?
Nanoha: Yeah, that.
Fate: Urg, tha- that’s impossible. It’s still embarrassing for me.
Nanoha: EH!?
Fate: Besides Chrono tells me I can call him by his normal name still.
Nanoha: Really.
Fate: So even if we become siblings, I’m thinking that it’ll be all right if I call him Chrono still.
Nanoha: But I’m sure Chrono-kun appreciate/be happy being called ‘onii-chan’ or ‘onii-san’ occasionally.
Fate: Really?
Nanoha: Yup, it’s like calling him by his name. How you address him is like confirming the connection between you. I’m happy that you call my name, Nanoha, but I’m just as happy if you call me friend.
Fate: I see, I see. That’s true, I’m the same.
Nanoha: My onee-chan (older sister) usually calls my onii-chan (older brother) Kyou-chan, but sometimes she just addresses him as ‘onii-chan’.
Fate: I’m sure Kyouya-san must feel embarrassed.
Nanoha: I think it’s because he enjoys it.
Fate: I understand now, thank you Nanoha. When I finally become siblings with Chrono, I’ll occasionally address him as ‘onii-chan’. Oh, we’ve completely strayed off the topic. We’ll move on to the next message now.
Nanoha: Okay, this is from my important friend and magic teacher Yuuno Scrya-kun. Hello everyone, this is Yuuno Scrya. It seems this time around I will be moving/working away from Nanoha and the others more and will not be able see you as often with them.
Fate: Yeah, that’s true.
Nanoha: But I’m doing my best over here. Logistical support and information processing is a very important/essential job/duty after all.
Fate: Of course it is.
Nanoha: I am different from Nanoha, Fate, Chrono and the others in the fact I will never be a good Ace on the battlefield like them. But I have a found a role where I can give them support that no one else can. So, please everyone, don’t forget about me because I am playing/participating/contributing in my own way. Really! That being said, this is Yuuno Scrya. Also please take care of Nanoha and Fate everyone.
Fate: Poor Yuuno, he’s become our logistical support completely.
Nanoha: Yeah, but a peaceful place like a library or an archaeological excavation site suits Yuuno more than a battlefield/battle-torn sky.
Fate: Yeah, I guess that’s true.
Nanoha: I’ve told Yuuno-kun so many times to leave combat to me.
Fate: I’m sure Yuuno was worried about Nanoha.
Nanoha: Um, I guess so. I wasn’t the best student there is.
Fate: Er, that’s not what I meant. I meant that as a friend doing something important for a friend. I’m sure that he wanted to stay Nanoha’s side and protect/support you.
Nanoha: Um, well it’s true that Yuuno-kun was better at defense than I was. I couldn’t penetrate/pierce Yuuno-kun’s defense unless I was going all out/using a powerful move. But while I’m not good at defense, I’m really good with the other stuff like…
Fate: I know… I know, I really know… I think you’re not quite understanding what I’m trying to say.
Nanoha: Huh? HUH? Um, but you know I told Yuuno-kun (made Yuuno-kun promise) a long time ago. Attack and defense are my roles, while his are coach and back support and told him that our roles are/should be firmly and evenly divided. So when I fly in the sky with him, I got to protect him!
Fate: Um, it looks like Yuuno-kun’s going to suffer through a lot more troubles/hardships from now on. But don’t worry/give up Yuuno, I’ll be cheering you on.
Nanoha: Huh? What? Is there something I’m not getting/understanding from this conversation?
Fate: Oh don’t worry about it Nanoha, I’m sure one day…
Nanoha: I’m glad that it’s nothing serious. Oh, but when I’m in the sky with Fate-chan I’ll protect you too!
Fate: Thank you Nanoha.
Nanoha: My barrier jacket has finally gotten its new sacred mode and its defense value has gone up. I can finally become Fate-chan’s shield
Fate: Yeah, my Lightning form has become/made to become a lot faster/more manoeuvrable. I can make sure that Nanoha can charge/go straight ahead by cutting down everything in your way. I will be Nanoha’s sword
Nanoha: Yeah, together surely…
Fate: We’ll be invincible.
F+N: YEAH!
Nanoha: But there hasn’t been that much opportunity to go into battle together.
Fate: Hm, right now, we’ve mainly been fighting individual battles
Nanoha: But our hearts are always one!
Fate: Yes, our hearts are one.
Nanoha: Yes it is!
Fate: Oh my, we’ve gotten way off topic again.
Nanoha: Oh, sorry about that.
Fate: Um, well then we’ll start reading everyone else’s messages for you.
Nanoha: We’ll go in order, first from Fate-chan’s partner Arf-san! Everyone, please watch over/take care of Fate and Nanoha, that is all!
Fate: Oh Arf…
Nanoha: Asura Communication Officer Amy. Heya, you two. I`ll have some snacks prepared for you, so come straight home. Also it would really help if you could you buy a litre pack of orange juice and a large bottle of coffee freshener (bad translation) for me on the way back. See ya latter!
Fate: I think Amy… gotten the wrong impression about the point of these messages.
Nanoha: Also from Mary-san of the maintenance staff visiting us on the Asura right now. Nanoha-chan, Fate-chan, what do you think of my repairs on Raging/Raising Heart and Bardiche and the newly installed Cartridge system? I’m sorry that we couldn’t make/get that many cartridges for you. If you find anything wrong please get your sempai/senior Amy to contact me right away. Also, everyone please cheer on Raging/Raising Heart and Bardiche. From Mary. And that’s all.
And now for the last one. It’s from someone who might become Fate-chan’s mother, TSAB Admiral Lindy-san. Hello, this is Lindy Harlaown. Are you all doing well? Thank you for taking care/looking after Nanoha-san and Fate-san. The incident that we’re involved in is very serious/difficult but thanks to the ever willing to joyfully fly in the sky and to fight Nanoha-san and Fate-san, we are certain we will be able to find a way to solve this case. I know you and I watch over these two with the same feelings in our hearts. I know we’ll see them in situations that will cause us to worry over them but, not to boast, they’re both very strong children. Together, thanks to their struggles and progress, we can face this case straight on (bad translation of this sentence). Until next time, TSAB Captain of the Warship/Battleship Asura, Lindy Harlaown. Is what’s written. Thank you very much Lindy-san.
Fate: Thank you very much. Please everyone, continue to watch over/support us.
Nanoha: And that’s all.
Fate: That was everyone’s messages.
Nanoha: Okay then, it’s almost time for us to sign off.
Fate: You’re right.
Nanoha: The last thing left is our personal messages for the people who have listened to this cd.
Fate: A message of thanks to everyone and a Christmas Eve message. All together we’ve prepared two different messages each.
Nanoha: Since it is a Christmas message, I would be really happy if people would listen to it on Christmas Eve.
Fate: Well then, I want Nanoha to decorate the “Oorasu” so I’ll go first (bad translation, what is an Oorasu? Star?). Well then, here I go.
4 – Message from Fate (To everyone who reads Megami Magazine)
Fate: To everyone who reads Megami Magazine, we encountered/meet/got involved with this magazine last year’s fall. Ever since Nanoha first became a magic user/mage.
How about everyone else, when did you start? Those who say “I just started reading the magazine”, if you please I will be relying on next time we meet.
I’m sure there will be many more meetings in the future from now on. All of our seniors (sempai) and the juniors (kouhai) we shall inevitable meet/make; the various girls who pass through our lives and names that will leave their marks on us from meetings and contact/acquaintance. I pray that from these important meetings, many precious companions/partners who will remain dear in our hearts forever.
I suspect in the near future we will be planning to rely on (the pages of) this magazine. If you can, could you please watch over/support us. Well then from Fate Testarossa of MSLN A’s. Lyrical Magical, I will do my best!
5 – Message from Nanoha (To everyone who reads Megami Magazine)
Nanoha: Hello to all readers of Megami Magazine. It’s been a year now since we began bothering/imposing on this magazine. Our amazing seniors (sempai) and new fellow heroines were truly beautiful and fun to be with. It was amazing, wasn’t it?
Knowing that, we’re conspicuously younger than most other heroines. We also didn’t do a lot of very heroine-like stuff either (alternative translation “We didn’t get to act in a very heroine-like manner either”). It seemed all we did was desperately shout, fly around in the night sky and fight each other all the time. *… what are you talking about Nanoha-chan! That’s why 50% of the people were watching you in the first place; at least that was why I was watching*
But you, the viewers/readers, kept on watching over and supporting us. We even got introduced to each other little by little. After that, thanks to your many enthusiasm/cheers and acts of support we are able to remain here/where we are now. So truly thank you very much, and I hope that we can rely on your future support too. Because of that, this is from Takamichi Nanoha of MSLN A’s. To your heart, Drive Ignition!
6 – Message From Fate (Christmas Eve Greetings to you all)
Fate: Good evening everyone, this is Fate. How are you passing/in what way are you passing tonight’s very quiet Christmas Eve? Me and Nanoha had school today. Afterwards, with Suzuka and Arisa, we went to visit Hayate. Then, we had order/rank exercises (bad translation) at the military base/garrison.
As we wait for reports of incidents/cases/events, if something happens we can deploy at any time. Though we cannot meet, I’m sure that even if you’re with someone or passing the night quietly alone. I’m praying with a peaceful heart that you’re having a happy Christmas Eve. Looking at the situation now there’s no end (there’s a mountain) of incidents/cases/events that are happening right now. Until it’s all over, it’s hard for us to meet.
Chrono, Admiral Lindy and Amy. And Nanoha by my side, I have no anxiety/worry/fears. It’s all right. Oh, of course, I’m also with Arf and Bardiche. After everything is over, then everything should be quiet once more. If we should meet once again then, I hope that we can talk and take it easy together. I’m sure there are many things we can talk about.
To you, who has quietly watched over me and listened to my talk/words. Thank you. This year’s Christmas Eve we’re separated/apart … but I’m sure my heart is by your side.
Merry Christmas.
This is Fate…
7 – Message from Nanoha (Christmas night, a thank you)
Nanoha: Good evening everyone, this is Nanoha. Tonight is Christmas Eve, how is the weather where you are? It’s very cold over here, and it looks like it’s going to snow tonight. The town is bustling with Christmas cheer but as a daughter of cake shop owners, my family’s Christmas is always a day late every year. But this year’s Christmas Eve since I can stay with Fate-chan I’m not the least bit lonely. Last year’s Christmas, I would never have predicted/thought that I would ever come to face/participate in such a critical case/event/incident. But right now, I am strangely calm; I’ve come to silently accept what I need to do and my situation. During Fate-chan’s situation/incident/case, all I wanted to do was to face each other and understand her. But for this situation, it’s a bit different. I still want to understand the other side’s feelings but I also want to look deeper at the bigger situation. I think I’m facing/opposing the case. Next to me is Fate-chan, and though Yuuno-kun is far away, he’s supporting with me also. And in my desk drawer is Raging/Raising Heart. I think, little by little, I’m discovering my future/what I want to do. And for that sake, I’m going end this and make sure there are fewer people who are saddened by this incident. And think everything over more so that I can go forward. Because everyone watches over me, I can walk forward. I am truly thankful. When all of this over, me and Fate-chan will definitely come and visit/see everyone. To everyone who gives me courage, Merry Christmas. Until next time, this is Nanoha.
08 - Epilogue
Fate: Okay.
Nanoha: So that concludes things.
Fate: It’s almost time for us to part from Megami Magazine Presents Sound Stage M.
Nanoha: It’s sad that we have to part, but we can see each other again any time.
Fate: See you next month… is what I want to say but it doesn’t look possible. (looks impossible)
Nanoha: Is it possible? (Is it impossible?)
Fate: Um, yeah, it doesn’t look possible… (Um, yeah, it looks impossible…)
Nanoha: Aw, that’s too bad. But we might meet once more, so for now let’s just part with a ‘see you again’.
Fate: Yeah, with a ‘see you again’.
Nanoha: Well then, thank you for listening to us.
Fate: All right then, a one and a two…
N+F: See you again!
