You're exaggerating.

While yes, a large portion of the industry is indeed catered to pander to an otaku audience, you simply aren't grasping the sheer diversity of anime out there. Just last year, there was Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Psycho Pass, and Fate/Zero to fulfill the sort of character aesthetics you're looking for. Maybe not quite as many as before, but most likely well enough to represent the subset of the audience that prefers that sort of thing.

Now, if you're trying to say that shows today don't have any depth, then I would strongly disagree with you. Well, that would depend on how you define "depth" of course. Perhaps you're just looking at the wrong things?
