Whitebeard is about honor and morals... something Blackbeard completely lacks...
I think one of the Supernovas or a character yet to be introduced will be Luffy's last enemy

When he was talking to Whitebeard about his missing arm...
He said he "made a bet on the New Era" or something like that...
So I think Shanks has high hopes for Luffy..
