Based on your likes/dislikes, I suggest you watch the following series:
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi (awesome fighting/martial arts + lots of humour, what more could you want?)
Baki the Grappler (again a great martial arts anime)
Blue Gender (if you like mecha)
Higurashi (solely for the mystery)
Code Geass (if you really liked Death Note, you'll enjoy this one as well)
Samurai Champloo (one of the best samurai animes I've seen)
Samurai Deeper Kyo (again a nice anime with sword fights)
Seirei no Moribito (not really sure if it's your kind of thing)
