Rahzel and Alzeid's relationship builds more slowly in the manga—but it was a bit too slow, so it's not surprising they gloss over it in the anime. The real character dynamic of the manga doesn't start until Baroqueheat shows up, so I understand why they would want to introduce him earlier.
Baroqueheat and Alzeid knew each other previously, and how he came to be traveling with the two of them is kind of complicated. Maybe the 2nd episode will flash back to that.
