Just saw a new theory. Shikamaru dying was just so Kishi could send him to where ever Kakashi saw his father. I guess the place where the dead cross over. He'll see his father and Asuma there. Maybe an excuse to see Neji. But also Itachi who wants to know about Sasuke. Itachi will answer some questions, but then Shika gets pulled back to life. Then he can reveal what Itachi told him to the others. Or maybe keep it to himself. And this will come into play during Sasuke's betrayal.
