Ange is discussing with Okonogi (yep, the same guy who was referred in Episode 1). She is still bearing quite a grudge against Eva, but Okonogi, being a close business partner to her and Hideyoshi, is certain that she isn't the culprit of the atrocious events in episode 3.
Ange is really doubtful about that, but Okonogi reminds her that she had a great sense of family and it is unthinkable that she would sacrifice both Hideyoshi and George for that.
They continue to discuss about what "would really happened" in 1986, and of course, all of this "being an accident" is impossible to believe. Still, Okonogi mentions that the police had no solid proof to either prove Eva's innocence or guilt. Okonogi then starts to explain about "love" that can change radically the perspective of someone.
Of course, Ange is puzzled by this and Okonogi explains that the truth has a different meaning depending of your perspective.
Their discussion is then done, and Okonogi warns that some people are after her, which she expects that they are just after her money (now that she is the only Ushiromiya left, she has inherited the whole fortune).
It seems her pursuers is Sumadara Kazumi, Kyrie's younger sister and thus Ange's aunt.
Okonogi knew about that and prepared a car in the parking for her sortie.
As Ange is trying to get out, she is certain it would be a trap and use another way out, and as she manages to get out of the building through the fire exit, but a car barges suddenly and men in black suits gets out of it, armed with guns.
Meanwhile, Sumadara is in the lobby and has a discussion with Okonogi. She believes that Okonogi covered her, but he claims she ran away.
Back with Ange, she is running like nuts as she has no chance to win should she try to fight against her pursuers. She is reckless and decides to... jump from the third story, much to the black suits' horror. She landed on a car, obviously leaving a dent on the roof.
She is however unable to stand up and is about to be caught. However, her pursuers are knocked out by a car. It is actually Amakuza Jyuuza, Ange's bodyguard. Without much time to loiter around, Amakuza quickly pushes Ange in his car and they get out of there.
Ange believes that Okonogi sold her due to the uncanny timing of her pursuers but it is revealed that it was Amakuza who set the plan and Ange just made things complicated by jumping out of the building like this. Thinking back of her reckless distrust, she realizes how the truth is so dependant of an interpretation.
Then, in the meta world, Bernkastel has a discussion with her, and the same concept is talked about, which obviously leads to the "shrödinger cat" analogy.

Back in 1986, the siblings have again a discussion over the inheritance. They are unable to corner Krauss and Kyrie suddenly has a proposal, even if she is an outsider.
She starts saying that Krauss' hardship shouldn't be overlooked as he took care of Kinzo and his estates for more than 10 years. Rudolf is fine by that but Eva is of course not happy with that, thinking Kyrie is saying selfish nonsense.
Even so, Rudolf and Hideyoshi asks her to continue, and Kyrie continue her statement that they should express more their gratitude towards Krauss and Natsuhi.
Krauss is surprised and pleased to hear that, and Natsuhi states it is only by pure duty and responsability. Kyrie takes this opportunity and confirms it is their responsibility.
This mentions makes Eva explodes, but Rudolf calms her down and plays along. After such reaction, both Rosa and Eva begin to figure what's going on and let Kyrie continuing her plan.
Kyrie begins to state the conditions: one is that he must take care of kinzo, but that was already fulfilled from the beginning. But then, Kyrie adds: if you ever neglect your responsibility, you lose your right to the succession.
Krauss is still nonchalant but Kyrie explains that it means he must assure Kinzo's longevity, therefore, he must not allow kinzo to die except from natural cause. Should he fail, Eva will take the succession.
Krauss states they are a lot of possible accidental death, especially with eldery. Hence, with so many possibilities, this is disadvantageous for him. Kyrie states that taking all responsibility would also involve him to prevent any possible accident, and if it is like this, there isn't any problem with Krauss.
So Krauss wonders what kind of fault would be within such condition and Kyrie gives an example: disappearance. For example, Kinzo might be affected by dementia, roam around and if they take off their eyes, an accident might occur. The same would happen if Kinzo goes to the forest and is reported missing.
Then, they would check his corpse or whatnot.
Natsuhi fails to understand what Kyrie is trying to mean, and she starts to say that ever since last year, each of them are doubting of something. Krauss is laughing out loud and figured out that they believe Kinzo already died and he is conceiling it.
In the Meta world, Battler and "Gretel" catche this theory and agrees that it would certainly have a huge impact on the mystery. If Kinzo is already dead by the time the whole tragedy starts, it means that Beato's "no more than 18 humans" would be shattered to piece: 17 family members + servants and the 18th which would be the culprit, not Kinzo as he is ruled out by default. And this is certainly possible with Kyrie's theory because Kinzo never shows up before anyone. Therefore, it might be Krauss' lie. Gretel confirms that if Kinzo dies, the inheritance distribution will be proceeded. But if he doesn't, or rather, if his death isn't reported, this will never happen.
Battler sees it as a perfect motive and is a great conclusion with the "no more than 18 humans" red truth. There IS a person X among them.
In other words, the original number of people is actually 17, and X joined them up, for 18. Since Kinzo is never confirmed alive, we got a illusion that the 18 are ALL the ushiromiya family members and the servants, but Beato never listed the 18 humans on Rokkenjima!
Beato barges in and congratulates Battler. She is of course keeping her sneering attitude but Battler forces her to declare in red that Kinzo is included in the 18. Beato is still confident and wonder if she must split him already with red truth.
Gretel realizes that Battler learned and grew from their skirmishes, but Beatrice as well. Hence, she doesn't use her red truth any longer, until for strict necessity. Battler is pumped up and provokes Beatrice, she keeps her composure and cackles.
As it is no use, Gretel tells Battler it is useless in the end. The problem is that Battler is inciting Beato to draw out her red truth as his weapon.
Beato confirms what Gretel's just said, and adds that there wasn't any obligation for her to answer with red truth to begin with. Then, Gretel figures that with this freedom, even the context can be affected as there is no proof that her refusal for the recital is because she is in trouble. therefore, it seals Battler into a wrong theory and then gots defeated a while later (this is what Beato did in Episode 2 with people hiding in the crime scene, and same with Episode 3 with the number of people on Rokkenjima).
However, there is still a way if Battler got a solid theory that force a mandatory red truth.
Then, Gretel and Beato decide on a rule that will settle this game exactly at midnight of the 5th october 1986.
If the witch side fails to give argument, the human side wins, and vice versa. Each side will have only one minute to give a counterargument.
Beato decides that since she is allowed to use red, Battler should be allowed to declare "tricks" and all in blue. This will represent the guess/theories statements of the human side (it isn't anything about lies). Whenever Battler uses blue, Beatrice will have to counter with Red. And because of the nature of the blue assumption, Battler cannot use it to go "against" the red statements and must denies the witch side.
Battler feels that he is disadvantaged but Gretel assures him that he should attack. Relentlessly. Battler imagines a gun analogy: even if he uses a gun, hitting the target afar might be difficult. What do you use instead? A shotgun.
The fight is settled and Battler draws out his blue shotgun already
Quote:
"右代宮金蔵はすでに死亡している。
よって島の本当の人数は17人!
そこに未知の人物Xが加わることで18人となっている。
この人物Xの存在の仮定によって、17人全員にアリバイがあっても犯行は可能になるッ!!"
Ushiromiya Kinzo is already dead. Therefore, the true number of people in this island is 17 ! Then a 18th person, X, joins them. By assuming the existence of X, the crime involving the 17 people becomes possible even if all of them have an alibi !!

Back in the "real world", Kyrie exposes her theory that Kinzo died already. Of course, Krauss and Natsuhi say it is ridiculous. They just have to prove that Kinzo is alive by having a conference with him.
Kyrie however says that if Krauss accept the responsibility of inheritance, they will stop requesting Kinzo's presence.
Kyrie then explains that wherever Kinzo dies, be it in a hospital or in his study, there will be an autopsy. Therefore, the best way to get rid of a problematic issue is exactly "disappearance". After 7 years, a missing person will be declared dead, even without any corpse. This is why Kyrie is adding the "disappearance" example in the inheritance responsibility.
Eva is so pleased that she is asking joyfully to kyrie to stop bullying Krauss.
Kyrie then adds that if he cannot do that, he will have to give a collateral of 3 billion of yen for each sibling, 10% to each of them by the time of the fiscal year (march~april).
Of course, a total of 9 billion is ridiculous. Hideyoshi tries to lessen the tension, but it is difficult for krauss.
In the end, he manages to cool his head and understand that all of them want to meet Kinzo, hence he will do his best to bring him in front of them. Both krauss and natsuhi leave the dinning room.
After the talk, Hideyoshi is quite frightener by Kyrie's staunt, and she apologizes though the rest of the siblings are happy with that. Rosa wonders if Krauss fiscal health will be fine, but Kyrie says that if it is impossible for him to draw out 900 million, then it is fine and they can allow him to save his face with 500 million. Should he hand over 900 million, it would be a big success then. And of course she really doubts that Krauss will be able to "convince Kinzo" to show up.
Both krauss and Natsuhi are begging Kinzo's presence (they ARE in his study).
"It is useless..." then Kinzo laughs like a madman "it is useless, all useless WUAHAHAHAHAHA" (he has a new tachi-e, and he looks really insane).
Kinzo figured out that Krauss is being threatened by his siblings. Here comes a new tips in the Meta world: a new "witch", Goldsmith (I'm NOT joking).
